CPF Statement on the Nomination of Michelle Lee as USPTO Director

The Coalition for Patent Fairness and its member companies today expressed overwhelming support for Michelle K. Lee’s nomination to be the next Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

“Michelle Lee will be an outstanding leader for the USPTO,” said CPF executive director Matt Tanielian. “Michelle Lee has led the PTO on an interim basis through a important time and already implemented significant changes to improve patent quality and the post-grant review process. The President could not have made a better choice and we urge the Senate to quickly confirm this nomination.”

“Only Congress can stop patent trolls from continuing to abuse the patent litigation system to extort undeserved settlements from businesses of all sizes,” Tanielian said, “but confirming a PTO director of Michelle Lee’s background and experience is an important and necessary step in strengthening our nation’s patent system.”
